Note: Kansas adopted Common Core standards with the exception of the Speaking and Listening standards. Thus, the standards listed in the documents available for download are Common Core standards.

In kindergarten, learners spend a large amount of their math time learning about the following three critical areas:  

• Representing and comparing whole numbers, initially with sets of objects
• Understanding addition as putting together and adding to, and subtraction as taking apart and taking from
• Describing shapes and space

The Common Core math standards for kindergarten consists of the Mathematical Practices and the following domains:

• Counting and Cardinality
• Operations and Algebraic Thinking 
• Number and Operations in Base Ten

• Geometry
